If I'm not officially accepted yet, what am I allowed to do in the OOC communities? You are perfectly welcome to ask questions or comment to posts in damned_lounge even if you haven't been accepted yet. However, we do not allow potential players to post with journals for characters who have not officially been accepted, and unless otherwise noted, non-players may not vote in any of the administrative polls.
As a potential applicant, what is the best way to contact a mod if I have questions about my application? We prefer to be emailed at damned.mods[at]gmail[dot]com so that we have a record of the question and having answered it. Leaving a comment on this post is also fine, if you don't mind the question being public.
I've submitted an application, but it's been a while and I haven't heard back. What should I do? We do our best to list the status of applications in our inbox over here. However, sometimes we do fall behind. If it's been a week and you haven't received a response, please feel free to contact one of the mods (on plurk, with a DW PM, etc.) to inquire about your application status.

Fixed, annnnnnd fixed! AND DON'T EVER HESITATE TO LET US KNOW if we made some stupid error; I'd much rather feel dumb when someone corrects me rather than feel dumb when I discover the problem myself way after the fact. 8D;
I PROBABLY HAVE MORE QUESTIONS THAN THIS, but uh, these are the only random ones I remember thinking up at dumb times. :[
1. Okay, this is less random and more plot-y, but about doctors being thrown out in regular shifts… I know I’ve seen a few appear during the field trip in Doyleton since that’s where they’re supposedly living (I think?) but say they start interacting with a character in a shop or something. Would it be all right for them to buy a patient a benign kind of gift like a discman, candy, etc.?
2. This actually doesn’t apply to me, I’ve just never been quite sure about it. On characters with electrical powers: are they able to interfere with the lights or anything like that and power them back on? I’m going with ‘no’, but I’m unclear on the details.
Subaru is still healing from getting nommed by Heat, but his face/eye should probably be just about healed by next dayshift (day 5 of the healing process--I was going to have his back/missing-kidney-area take until day 6 or so), so I was wondering... will he be given some sort of glass or acrylic eye to replace the one he lost? He's a very well-behaved and gentle patient, not the type to use it for pranks or anything, and I would prefer that to a patch if at all possible.
So if Ophelia has already lost a flashlight a few in-game days ago and not gotten a new one yet, will one respawn for her randomly at the start of this NS?
Scourge is over at this end (http://damned-maps.livejournal.com/3355.html) of the institute. He's about to be in North Hallway 2-B, then will go through Decon and to the chemical storage room. For the record, he's got heightened auditory and olfactory abilities.
I'm wondering if he'd hear anything (the animals in the kennel, if they're making growly or scratching noises) or smell anything (chemicals in the decon/lab area/chemical storage room) noteworthy. If the chemicals are sealed up tight he probably wouldn't notice anything, but if there's scentworthy residue he would notice it.
I'm going to assume that one does for now, since I can't wait anymore and that's what it seems would happen given the explanation above. If that's not correct, let me know! ^^;
1. There are intercoms in each room, but they were set into the walls which means that actually getting to them would take a lot of effort since the wall would kind of have to be bashed in or something along those lines.
2. Uhh, not sure that he would be able to get a message out to anyone who isn't in the institute, Jill included, but he might be able to do something with the two-way radios. We're not really sure what you mean about having him 'tune in,' so if you could explain that a little more then it would be helpful.
1. Yes, that should be okay! So long as it's benign. :)
2. Uhh, it kind of depends on the character and what powers the person worked out with us when they applied, but... generally, I'd say that maybe they could power on the lights in one room, but probably only for a short while and it would really drain them.
Hmm, he would probably be able to hear the weird growls/moans/general noises that the animals are making, yes! All of the chemicals are probably sealed and sterilized, though, so he'd probably just smell cleaning fluids and stuff like that.
Lenny is hoping to find his Polaroid camera and some film in the Patient Possessions room. Last I check, that room didn't have a description. Is there just a box with his name on it or something in there?
Also, granted he gets it back, would the nurses take pity on him and allow him to use it during the day, since realistically, the dark lighting at night would not make for good photographs it'd be really helpful for his rehabilitation or some other excuse?
I have a question about supplies and timewarps. I have a character who wants a particular item and has been to the storage rooms, like, 34840598 times to get it, but has been routinely beaten by someone who will raid the entire room, taking limited numbers of things with them. I'm not sure if I've heard this before, but in these situations, is it within the rules to pretend they came in at a different time, or do we play it out as it is?
This is probably a no-brainer, but! Barring creating new top-level posts for NS after it has passed, how long is it okay to continue an old backthread? Is there a time limit on that?
I am asking because no thanks to my phail my fourth shift thread never really got off the ground, yet Allie is game to backthread it with me if it's okay. I figured that it probably is, but we thought to check with you gals first. :3
I have to ask as it may benefit potential applicants:
How strict are the age restrictions for potential characters? I know 9 and under are not allowed as per the application guidelines, but I recall an older version stating that "demonic type" children of the restricted age group may be permitted under certain circumstances.
The reason I ask is because I am considering a 9-year-old (Ushiromiya Maria from Umineko no Naku Koro ni) as a future character. I am wondering if she might be allowed into the game (provided the application is up to standard) despite the age for the following reasons: (1) She's considered a witch (a supernatural being) from the time line I'm taking her, (2) the series is a horror/mystery visual novel and details disturbingly graphic murders, including her own (choking/implied poisoning), (3) she has been involved in these murders (repeatedly killing her own mother by crushing, tearing her limb from limb, etc. using magical power or witnessing the death of others), and (4) is highly familiar with the supernatural and supernatural beings (witches, demons, goat butlers, etc.) Comparatively, Maria's experience in her own canon is harsher than Landel's, and anything the RP setting may offer will fit with this character given she comes from a horror genre.
So basically, would these reasons be substantial to allow this 9-year-old into consideration for acceptance, or does this rule carry no exceptions?
1) THIS MIGHT SEEM LIKE A STUPID QUESTION, BUT. Tyki Mikk already had visitors last in-game Sunday, and I was required to think of some stuff for those visitors in order for it to work. Anyway, I believe that shift had been prior to the rule of getting the "real life"-story approved. I already had sent an email a while ago, but I haven't received an answer yet so before I bother you again I thought I should ask.
Anyway, when you already had a "real life"-story for your character before that rule had been created, are you still required to ask for approval? Changing things would lead to some contradictions after all...especially if the character in question already had doctor and visitor shifts.
2) On the Taken Characters list, "Disney's The Lion King" -> "Scar", my own name is also listed as Scar. ^^; At Tyki and Tenzen it's listed as Sam, and at the contact list it's listed as Samantha. SORRY IF I SEEM REALLY PICKY OR ANYTHING BUT I JUST NOTICED. ^^; And I don't know where else to post this.
I'm a potential new applicant and I need to clear something up before I go any farther with my application.
I'm writing an app for Yoite from Nabari no Ou. This is all fine and dandy except that he's a hermaphrodite, although his level of... hermaphrodite-ness is never really stated in canon. Personally, I think that from the waist up, he's a guy and from the waist down, he's a she which is how I'd like to have him at Damned. Don't remember what it's called right now. Anyway, a lot of his Issues come from this and I don't really want to take that away. Which brings me to my question.
Would you mind terribly if I kept him as a hermaphrodite? And instead of having the nurses/doctors flail over this, I'd like to have them treat Yoite as a girl ("You're such a lovely girl! Sort of... flat-chested but nothing plastic-surgery can't fix!") since all his canonmates call Yoite a 'he'... If it would be alright?
Not a mod, but seeing app cycle is fast approaching, if you don't get an answer before then, you could always keep it and write about your reasoning why in the app? Then if the mods do have any issues, they can talk it over with you and you won't have delayed or missed out on the upcoming cycle. :)
And as someone who's had to talk out things like power issues a couple of times, I can vouch for them being very patient with that. ^^
Also not a mod, but definitely someone who is nit-picky here. What you're describing sounds more like someone who is intersexed rather than a hermaphrodite. The latter term means they have genitalia from both sexes. :)
Okay, I have a question about everybody's favourite subject: the fourth wall.
So the thing is that the Marvel universe is supposedly taking place in our world. And they very frequently reference other real life TV shows, comics, books, movies, celebrities, etc. But it gets a bit sticky, because Spider-Man is a huuuuuuuuuuge world-wide phenomena, and is blatantly referenced in plenty of other stories and whatnot. So what happens when Peter references something that references him?
Is that even allowed? Do we get to say that this particular piece of media still exists in their world, just without the reference to that world? For example, I've already made a mistake by claiming that Peter has read the Animorphs and later finding out that they talk about Spider-Man in the books (THIS IS WHY I SHOULD READ/WATCH STUFF BEFORE CITING IT, GUH). I just figured they were the kind of books he read as a kid (and they were big during the time he supposedly grew up in), and now it's blown up in my face. Is it okay to assume that the Animorphs series exists in his world, just without the mention of Spider-Man? Or like the Kill Bill movie, would the bit about Spider-Man's identity just be omitted from Bill's monologue at the end of volume two?
And to make it even more confusing, they make offhand, very very vague remarks about Batman a few times in the comics: "You were like Catwoman!" or "Who's her father? Batman?". But Marvel's had a few crossovers in the past where they just pass it off as them living in the same world all along, and yet here it could also be that Batman is fictional. Considering the plethora of Batman characters in Damned, if they're fictional, Peter would recognize them. Instantly. But if they're real he might not know them at all - and this could extend to any member of the DC universe. Should I consult the players on this, or just you guys, or just go with whatever feels right?
And I am so very sorry for springing this on you so close to apps. I can wait for an answer, there's nothing detrimental yet that involves this, but...yeah. May need it for future reference? Thanks in advance. @_@
