Oh, gosh, this is so long-winded, I'm sorry. I'm considering apping come this next cycle, but the character's a bit... tricky. I just wanted to cover all my bases. I'm not sure how familiar any of the mod team is with Nabari no Ou, so I figured I'd explain it the best I could, just in case.
Yoite utilizes this skill called "kira," which is a forbidden knowledge of kinjitsu in this canon. He's... pretty much the only person in the world who uses it, because it's insane to even consider doing so. Essentially, it focuses the user's lifeforce, injecting it into the victim's body and allowing the user to manipulate the other person's ki. This can lead from everything to broken bones to ruptured organs, lacerations, anything, so long as it starts as internalized, and depending on how much lifeforce the user employs.
However, this obviously comes with some consequences, since, you know, crazy bitches is using they own LIFE to kill other people. It fucks up the ki in the user's body, sometimes warping physical properties - for instance, Yoite didn't experience any symptoms of puberty until he was sixteen, and when he did, all of his growth was contained in a space of three days rather than over a few years as it normally should. It causes deterioration when used enough. He's basically falling apart - organ failure, hair falling out, hands and feet are dusky with gangrene and rot, etc etc.
From the earliest in canon I can take him from while having any sort of actual canon to work with, Yoite only has a couple months to live. Four or so by the beginning of it. From the point I want to take him from, it's more like two or three, tops. Which is fine in a contained little manga, of course, but it makes for pretty... weird RP. So, here's where the other questions come in: (FINALLY, I know.)
a) Is there any way this could be reasonably handled, a character having... well, what's essentially a fatal disease? It would be a bit more difficult to convince him that he's not from his world when, well, the proof is in the pudding - his hands are all blackened. Perhaps chalked up to some other illness, some life-threatening one that has similar symptoms to what he's experiencing, or...? Some kind of cure timeline? I'm obviously not looking for advice on how to play the character, just wondering what your standpoint would be ^^ I'm open to suggestion.
b) Totally unrelated, but on the subject of names, he was born with a different name than he has now. He has a sort of disjointed way of viewing his past, some kind of a mental block on it. The details are sort of fuzzy, it seems, and he gets very confused when he talks about it, talking about his past self as if it's a different person entirely sometimes. Would it be okay if I used his birth name as the "real name," as he doesn't even consider it his own, or would I come up with a handy dandy new one? Either way's fine with me!

Okay. Whew. I'm done. I think. I'm sorry ;_;
