Monster Suggestion Post

Thank you for your interest in helping us create more monsters to haunt the Institute halls! Below you will find a helpful form to use in submitting your monster ideas and some guidelines about how to post. Once submitted, the Monster NPC mods and the Head Mods must approve your suggestion before it is implemented in part or in full. We will answer your suggestions as soon as we are able, but please understand it may take some time for all parties to review and discuss the information.

RULES
1) All monsters must be original creations.
At this time, we are unable to approve any canon monsters. We understand that there has been some interest in bringing in canon-specific monsters, but in the interest of keeping with the current monster roster, they are not allowed for now. However, if there is a sufficient number of requests and interest, this may change at a later date.

2) Questions are allowed in this post with one stipulation.
If you have questions regarding monsters (rather than a suggestion), they are allowed in this post. However, you must put the word QUESTION in the comment title. This is to help the mods distinguish between suggestions and questions, and to help you get your question answered in a timely fashion.

3) Responding to suggestions with suggestions of your own is allowed and encouraged.
We like to get as much input as possible from the players when it comes to creating new monsters, so feel free to step in and talk about the suggestions if you have any constructive input, critique, or additions. Please refrain from writing comments that do not lend any further information toward building the monster, but do let us know if you support the creature as an addition to the current roster!

4) Only players of the game are allowed to post.
Like the rule says, we apologize for any inconvenience, but we are only allowing current players of Damned to post their suggestions here.

If you read and agree to the above, then please proceed to the form below.

Other Contact Method: Plurk: crossthesky
Character(s) Played: Tolten (age_of_kings) and Lust (a_sin_for_him)

Monster Name: Clinger
Physical Description: At first glance, tucked into ceiling corners and other high, out of the way places, these creatures appear almost as giant, pale spiders. But their spindly, bonelike legs number six rather than eight. Averaging the size of a man's torso, the body of the beast thin and wide, almost as though two great books crushed it between. Its skin is a sallow whitish color and spongy, like the underbelly of a subterranean mushroom. Their heads are bulbous. Their faces are lacking definition, only large dark smudges where eyes would be and a shadow of a mouth behind a thin membrane.

Sickly and revolting as the thing's body is, the appendages are the true fright. Three to four feet long and knobby with a multitude of joints, they end in wide, flat three fingered hands. The fingers themselves are the same as the appendages, long and knobbed with joints. The same spongy membrane that covers its mouth webs between its fingers, thick and malleable. They twitch and jerk and move with speed.

Attack Pattern: It lays in wait in corners and tree branches, any high place it can tuck itself into. When the unsuspecting walk close enough, it drops down and wraps its spindled legs around its victim, gripping them from behind and holding tightly while it attempts to suffocate its prey with its membranous webbed hands. It's appendages are strong, but not strong enough to crush a person - unless they were particularly fragile/frail. It seeks to suffocate with its palms and flesh webbing rather than crush.

Weaknesses: Despite its strength, its spongy skin is easily pierced and its organs are quite delicate. There are no bones protecting its fragile insides. Even if grabbed, a strong and quick victim stands a good chance of besting the beast. The appendages are the only part its body that offer resistance, some sort of hardness beneath the spongey, moist skin.

Abilities and Effects: Other than speed, the clinger has no special abilities and causes no effects other than attempting to suffocate. It's a low-to-medium level monster.
